Kite Paper Pieces
Kites! They're 1/6 of a hexagon, but split through the flat sides rather than the corners, making the most interesting and beautiful fussy cut designs. Kites are the base shape for the lovely Rose Star block, and make funky triangles if all the short sides point in.
For perhaps over 400 years, English Paper Piecing has been used to make beautiful, heirloom quilts. It’s meditative, portable, simple, and perfect for fabric scraps or fussy cutting.
All of our paper pieces are laser cut for accuracy from high-quality 100% post consumer, recycled paper, and packaged in recycled and recyclable packaging. The quantities in each packet are determined by the most efficient way to cut a large sheet of paper.
Kites are measured along the short sides. Six 1" kites go together to make a 2" hexagon.
- The kites in the 1st photo are made from 2" kites.
- The kites in the second photo inclue 3/5" kites (which are 1" on the long side, and are matched with 2" crowns and 2" 6 pt diamonds.)
- The kites in photo 3 are 1 1/5" and matched with 3" crowns.
- Photo 4 show my Ice-Cream Soda quilt in progress. It has 1" 6 pt diamonds, 1" kites, and 2" crowns.
